Children’s / Young People rights
Children / Young People have rights in every aspect of the care they receive in the home. There are various policies and procedures that protect these rights, for example, protection against bullying and abuse, with the rights to be dealt with fairly through the behaviour management policy. The home has also developed an additional policy to protect privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
The home’s policy statement states:
‘The home and staff will respect a child’s wish for privacy, confidentiality, and the maintenance of dignity in manner that is entirely consistent with good parenting and the need to protect the child.’
Education
One of the central elements of the home’s philosophy and ethos is the desire to ensure that each child receives an education, which “enhances their life prospects in every respect”.
Enjoyment and achievement
Recreational sporting, and cultural activities
The Serenity Path Care provides a range of leisure; sporting and cultural activities, which are suitable for and appropriate to the children we, have in our care.
Health protection and promotion
The home seeks to promote and protect the health of all children by:
Reviewing and responding to the healthcare needs (physical, mental and emotional) identified within the case notes and files upon arrival.
Ensuring that all medicines brought into the home are properly recorded, and their administration is supervised and controlled in accordance with the home’s policy and procedure regarding the administration of medicines.
Being alert to the child’s needs, at all times, and obtaining medical (or other) support as needed.
Registering each child with local medical and dental practices and arranging for/encouraging regular attendance and check-ups.
Therapeutic techniques
The home does not offer any specialist therapeutic techniques, however, has contact with
trained people that can offer this service. In addition to a qualified trained counsellor,
experienced with working with young people.
